How Tiny is Hosta ‘Tiny Tears’?

Just how small is this little bugger?  Small enough to get lost in anyone’s yard!  Here it is with a good ol’ American quarter for comparison:

Here is my new River of Tears – Hosta ‘Tiny Tears’ that is.  Tiny Tears is probably the tiniest hosta that I have.  It’s really minute.  Tiny Tears was moved from the concrete garden that had been overrun with evergreen tree roots.  It had been a nice idea but the hosta were dying a slow death from root competition.

Tiny Tears was the very first mini hosta that I ever purchased and was well worth it.  I purchased it in 2005 from Bridgewood Gardens and described it as just “so darn cute, I couldn’t resist”.

While I was moving plants, I took the opportunity to divide Tiny Tears and then replanted in this “river” of divisions.  Tiny Tears is an itty bitty dwarf plant, a h. venusta hybrid.  According to some it can get two inches high but I think that’s a stretch, at least in my sandy soil.

Tiny Tears is planted in a new bed that is filled with permatill, a permanent soil amendment that I’m using to deter voles.
