Teaspoon
Here is all that is left of my Hosta ‘Teaspoon’. Teaspoon had been in the concrete garden that was overrun by evergreen tree roots. It definitely suffered from the competition and hasn’t increased much if at all. Teaspoon is a cross between Birchwood Parky’s Gold and Golden Tiara. Probably the cutest thing about Teaspoon is its serrated edge. It’s got teeth!
Today I moved Teaspoon to a new bed and disassembled the concrete garden. I purchased my itty bitty Teaspoon in either 2005 or 2006 from Bridgewood Gardens. Here it is in the early spring, 2007:
Tiny Tears
Here is my new River of Tears – Hosta ‘Tiny Tears’ that is. Tiny Tears is probably the tiniest hosta that I have. It’s really minute. Tiny Tears was moved from the concrete garden that had been overrun with evergreen tree roots. It had been a nice idea but the hosta were dying a slow death from root competition.
Tiny Tears was the very first mini hosta that I ever purchased and was well worth it. I purchased it in 2005 from Bridgewood Gardens and described it as just “so darn cute, I couldn’t resist”.
While I was moving plants, I took the opportunity to divide Tiny Tears and then replanted in this “river” of divisions. Tiny Tears is an itty bitty dwarf plant, a h. venusta hybrid. According to some it can get two inches high but I think that’s a stretch, at least in my sandy soil.
Tiny Tears is planted in a new bed that is filled with permatill, a permanent soil amendment that I’m using to deter voles.

Touch of Class
This is a beautiful sport of Hosta ‘June’ and in my opinion is even better than June. Of course, I say that with a June that has shrunk up to almost nothing thanks most likely to voles or (more likely) moles creating a cavern under the crown. So not only is it looking better but it’s growing better and the color is just amazing. The color is a really rich blue and gold. It seems to come through in the photos pretty good, too. I purchased TOC at Direct Source Hostas in 2006. Never an unsatisfied minute with this plant!

From early 2007, look at that color!
