Marilyn

While Hosta ‘Marilyn’ is supposed to be a small to medium sized plant, mine has remained on the dwarf size.  It’s probably in too much sun although once the perennials and even the annuals grow out they cast a lot of shade.  It probably also gets too little water.  This year I moved the soaker hose so it’s a bit closer and we’ll see if that helps.  I’m still not thinking of moving it but I might pay for that thought if it decides to disappear completely next year.

Marilyn is a cross between ‘Gold Drop’ and ‘Green Piecrust’.  It has yet to achieve a size that shows off any of its leaf ripples but … we’ll cross our fingers.

Moonlight

It’s a color show!

Marbled Cream

Hosta ‘Marbled Cream’ is a streaked hosta that I got from Foxfire.  The streaking is a bit muted this year but it is still streaked on each leaf so I won’t need to separate anything out this year.  Marbled Cream is a hybrid of Hosta ‘Yellow Splash’ that was registered in 1985.  I bought mine in 2007 in the hopes that I could make some crosses but I got nothing last year thanks to my crazy work schedule.

Moonlight

Hosta ‘Moonlight’ is an interesting hosta that changes from green to gold to white in just one leaf!  The color is really spectacular.  It’s a medium to large sized sport of Gold Standard and it shows.

Moonlight Sonata

Who knows exactly what makes a plant a favorite?  I surely don’t.  Hosta ‘Moonlight Sonata’ has become one of my all time favorites and I can’t tell you why.  It doesn’t have a painted, mulit-colored leaf.  It doesn’t really scream for attention.  Yet it’s blue-green leaves and large, fragrant, white flowers simply make me swoon.

I have not a single photo that captures what I love in this plant which is ashame.  Each time I try to take a picture of this gorgeous plant, it seems to lack whatever it is that makes it special.  Try as I might, the photos have never matched the feeling that I get when looking at this plant.

Moonlight Sonata is located at the very top of the creek, above the small pond.  It’s in a small hosta garden with Lakeside Roy El, Tall Boy, White Christmas and Key Lime Pie among others.  Here it is for what it’s worth in a photo:
