Krossa Regal

You can find this plant anywhere and it’s worth getting so that makes life easy, eh?  Hosta ‘Krossa Regal’ is a large, upright, blue-grey, vase-shaped plant.  It’s a nigrescens hybrid that is a classic beauty.  It has been a rather slow grower for me but I haven’t heard that from other people so it may just be my lousy soil.

The only warning I will give is that this is a plant that you will very often see in the large box stores, home improvement centers, etc.  Beware that the plants in these stores are often infected with HVX, a virus for which there is no cure.  You have a better shot at getting a healthy plant if you purchase it from a reputable nursery who can tell you whether or not thier plants are healthy.

Key Lime Pie

Hosta ‘Key Lime Pie’ is in one of my favorite spots in the garden, at the top of the pond where the water is pumped out for the stream. KLP is a sport of Squash Casserole, has brilliant, rippled and ruffly leaves that emerged bright green with a creamy white border appearing as the plant unfurls. According to others, it’s a vigorous grower and since it arrived as sort of a mop of a plant in 2007, I was really happy with the show in 2008. It also happens to be right next to my favorite plant in the garden – Hosta ‘Moonlight Sonata’.

kikutii

Hosta kikutii is a species hosta with long, graceful leaves.  I acquired this hosta in 2007 in the hopes that it would have some usable pollen to play with.  I think she’s rather pretty!
