Cracker Crumbs

Hosta ‘Cracker Crumbs’ is truly cute.  Cracker Crumbs was moved from my old concrete garden that had been invaded by tree roots.  Now Cracker Crumbs is out of the safety of a raised bed and into the REAL GROUND!  Hope everything goes ok.  It’s a very small plant and would not take much to lose it.

The grey rock that you see around this plant is Permatill which is a permanent soil amendment that helps deter voles.  Since Cracker Crumbs is so small it’s pretty much growing IN permatill.  Cracker Crumbs is a sport of Hosta ‘Shiny Penny’ and although teeny in size, I expect this one to increase a bit now that it’s free of the tree roots.

clausa

Hosta clausa is an interesting little plant that came up early for me this year and was beat down by the frost.  Will it make an appearance later this year?  Is it dead?  I don’t know!  Clausa’s main attractions are it’s flowers that appear but never open.  I love this little plant so I hope I didn’t lose it.  Here’s a photo from last year:

Cutting Edge

Hosta Cutting Edge is a super medium sized plant with a frosty blue leaf and unique white backs.  The leaves are ruffled and fold upwards showing off the white backs.  It’s a gorgeous cascading upright clump, a Salute hybrid.  The leaves are elongated, sharply pointed and ruffled.

I acquired my plant in 2006 from Bridgewood Gardens.  It’s an exciting and cool plant.  It was described as one of the “most distinctive new hostas we’ve seen” as well as forming “a stunning, architectural clump”.  That description sold me and I wasn’t disappointed when I received the plant.

Cadillac

Cadillac is a medium sized gold and green leaf with a dark green band on a gold field.  I purchased this cutie on a weekend shopping trip with Paul at Michael’s Country Nursery.  He picked it out of a selection of hundreds of gorgeous plants.  I think he made a good choice!

From day of purchase in 2007 still in the pot:
